Why people choose Sundaram

The shop was started by Sundaram Iyengar in 1943 and is run today by Rajagopalan N., of the same family. People choose Sundaram for its traditional taste, and for the way the shop has kept to the heritage of that taste.

“The best effective coffee we ever tasted, without comparing to any other.”

Everything is done by the shop

Roasting, blending, grinding and packing are all ours. Nothing is ground until an order has been placed, and bulk orders are roasted after they come in.

That is the whole advantage a shop this size has: the order and the grinding are in the same hands.

The bag came first

Customers have carried the shop’s cloth bag out of the door for years. Printed on it: a woman pouring from a brass filter into a cup, the name in English, and under it சுந்தரம் காபி ஓர்க்ஸ் with the Kasukadai Street address.

The emblem shown here redraws that mark: a woman holding a tumbler of coffee in its dabarah, a brass filter beside her, inside a ring carrying the name in English and Tamil. It is not a new idea. It restates a mark the shop already owned.

Come to the counter, or send the order

Every pack on this site is ground and packed by the shop after the order comes in. If you are in Chidambaram, come to the counter.
